01Why this fund

Health and movement as an integral part of Inner City life.

When streets, parks and waterfronts support everyday movement, walking, running, cycling, stretching and recreation, they become safer, more vibrant and more inclusive. Active public spaces attract a wider diversity of users throughout the day and strengthen social cohesion across communities.

Cities around the world are investing in urban wellness infrastructure that encourages daily movement and supports both physical and mental wellbeing. This fund positions health and movement as an integral part of Inner City life.

07Why support this fund

Healthy cities do not happen by accident. They are designed to encourage movement, interaction and participation in daily life. They create opportunities for people to walk, run, cycle, gather and engage with one another in public space.

Mission for Inner City Cape Town sees wellness as an essential component of urban regeneration. Active streets are safer streets. Public spaces that support recreation attract a wider range of users and foster stronger connections between people and place. Around the world, investment in urban wellness is increasingly recognised as an investment in economic resilience, social cohesion and quality of life.

The impact extends far beyond individual participants. A city that encourages movement is a city that encourages engagement, connection and civic pride. This is not funding for a collection of sporting events. It is an investment in creating one of the most liveable urban environments on the African continent.
