Mandela Day Coffee Rave

A rave that starts at seven in the morning: coffee, thrift and music, done in time for work. Day life, not night life.

01THE STORY

Day life, not night life

Coffee Rave inverts the whole idea of a rave. It starts at 07h00 and finishes at 10h00, so you dance, drink coffee, dig through the thrift rails and still make it to work. It runs at Yebo Baba on Loop Street, in the middle of the inner city, on a Friday morning.

The Mandela Day edition returned on Friday 17 July 2026, a year after the first one on Mandela Day 2025.

Mission for Inner City is one of the partners behind it, alongside Coffee Rave, Yebo Baba, Bridges for Music and HELP the Rural Child. It is the kind of thing we back rather than produce: someone else's good idea for using the inner city differently, at an hour the city is usually only passing through.
