Inner City Film Night

An outdoor surf film screening on Shortmarket Street, staged outside Keep It Simple Surf as part of the first Surf Expo Africa.

01THE STORY

A night of surf and stories under city lights

When we heard the first Surf Expo Africa was happening at the CTICC, we jumped at the opportunity to get the word out by staging an outdoor surf film screening on Shortmarket Street right outside Keep It Simple Surf (KISS).

Three films played on a screen set up in the road: Surf's Up (For Real), Equilibrio: The SOMA Story and Le Jardin. Chairs went out on the tarmac, the festoon lights overhead did the rest, and Shortmarket Street was a cinema from half past six until nine. A hundred and fifty people signed up.

Whilst the selection of movies entertained, more importantly, the event brought the surfing community together and reminded us that the Inner City is closer to the beautiful beaches and ocean of Cape Town than we often think.
