About Seating & Greening
A long-running placemaking programme softening the inner city with benches, planters, and pocket parks. Built with the Central City CID and the City of Cape Town, the work spans pedestrianised streets, public squares, and underused setbacks. Each intervention is designed to invite people to linger, not just pass through.
The green network now has a dedicated caretaker: through the Green Squad Urban Gardener pilot, our first EPWP graduate, David Moses, tends more than 58 large planters on the Bree Street Experiment, new tree-well planting, and the hanging flower baskets piloted on St George's Mall, working hand in hand with the City's Parks team.
Next in the ground: Lower Long Pocket Park, a pilot with GreenPop converting a plantable road reserve on Lower Long Street into a green lung, with climate-appropriate planting, seating, and sustainable drainage.
