ULTRA VIOLET GALLERY

What was once nothing more than a vacant café, has found new life as Ultra Violet Gallery – thanks to matchmaking a landlord to the right tenant. The space is now a photographic and framing studio supporting the work of local artists.

The new tenant, Dylan Culhane, brings a maker’s sensibility and a deep care for craft and design, transforming the premises into a beacon of creativity and authenticity.

This intervention marks a meaningful shift on Shortmarket Street – replacing vacancy with vitality, and reintroducing a genuine, design-led business that reflects the spirit of Cape Town’s Inner City. It’s a small but significant example of how thoughtful tenanting can reignite the character and potential of a once-overlooked corner.
